personally I think Tyrone Washington's 'Natural Essence' is one of the most over looked in the catalog, and one of my favorites. I like this project, let me know if you need any help getting any of the mp3s, I have quite a few BNs. peace.

Hiya Greg. I always liked Duke Pearson's quirky rendition of Beguine from Wahoo!

...and to continue the Byrd theme, (Donald's stuff tends to lend itself well to an eclectic mix) any or all of his RGS album "Kofi"...but I see it is not on your list, if you want me to up it for you, let me know.

What is this, some sort of masochistic exercise? 70 songs in 70 minutes from a catalog as large as the state of Texas? Good luck to you, my friend.!

Asking for suggestions is also a bit sadistic. Where to begin? McLean, Hutcherson, Shorter, and some of my other favorites have already been duly nominated. I don't see any suggestions thus far for Dexter Gordon. I've always enjoyed his Blue Note work, and how about a taste of Bobbi Humphrey just to represent the latter wave of young turks (or in this case, turkette) who took BN in a new (if not always pure) direction?

I look forward to the results. Should be an interesting mash-up.

Something from the Gil Melle 10"s would be interesting. "The Gears" was on one of those, no? Some favorites: Dialogue- Bobby Hutcherson, Evolution- Grachan Moncur III, Destination... Out!-Jackie McLean, Out To Lunch-Eric Dolphy. That whole early to mid 60's run of "New Thing" Blue Notes should provide lots of gems. Any Andrew Hill. A few other faves: "Vision" off of McCoy Tyner's Expansions, the Kenny Cox records, Duke Pearson's Chili Peppers or Los Hombres Malos (??) on The Right Touch. I recently got The In-Between by Booker Ervin and was blown away. A great album. It's hard not to go on and on. Hope this helps a little.
